Special Announcement

NEW:  As of 2/16/21, I have received both doses of the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine.  I do not require clients to be vaccinated in order to receive services.  As a health care service, we are still required to wear masks during massage sessions, and I continue to follow the sanitizing protocol outlined by the CDC.

COVID-19 Update

Amidst these uncertain times I want to take a moment to let you all know how I am dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak. I take the health and safety of my clients and community very seriously. And so I am taking precautions to do my part in preventing the spread of COVID-19.

With that said, this is the new protocol I am following:

After careful consideration and thought I have decided to move my massage practice to my home.  This may only be a temporary change, but for now it is the most practical decision to keep myself and my clients safe.

I am in compliance with the Maryland Secretary of Health with regard to the order that Licensed Massage Therapists maintain a week's worth of PPE in their practice. (face masks, rubber gloves, hand sanitizer)

I clean and disinfect all surfaces after each client using a CDC approved disinfectant.

I launder all sheets and linens after every client.

I screen all clients before their sessions and have them fill out a Covid-19 addendum in addition to the health intake form.

And finally, I take care of myself.

We will all get through this if we stay safe and take care of ourselves and each other.

Massage Therapy makes a wonderful gift!

How can massage therapy help me?

Stress

For more than 20 years, research has shown the positive effects of massage therapy for stress relief. In one study, there was a significant decrease in heart rate, blood pressure, and cortisol levels after just 10 to 15 minutes of chair massage.  Cortisol is known as the "stress hormone", but it also regulates a wide range of processes throughout the body, including metabolism and the immune response.

Depression and Anxiety

Studies have shown massage therapy to be effective in relieving anxiety and depression for people in a wide range of health situations. For example, one randomized study found women with stage 1 and stage 2 breast cancer benefited from regular massage therapy sessions. The immediate massage benefits included reduced anxiety and anger, while the long-term impact reduced depression and increased serotonin values. Serotonin, a neurotransmitter which functions in various parts of the body, works to regulate mood, appetite, sleep, memory and learning.

Pain

From the muscle strain and soreness when you overdo it to serious or chronic pain, massage therapy is showing positive results. Consumers are learning its value, as 41 percent of American adults who had a massage in the past five years indicate they sought it for pain relief.

A meta-analysis of research on massage therapy for pain conducted by Samueli Institute in 2016 concluded that massage therapy should be strongly recommended for pain management.
